Peter Chamberlain
Founder & CEO, WalkWise
Peter Chamberlain is the Founder and CEO of WalkWise, a company that develops smart walker attachments to promote senior independence and safety.12 He graduated from the University of Portland in 2014 with a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Music.1
During his time at the University of Portland, Chamberlain was highly involved in various activities:
- Chair of the engineering student advisory committee
- Chapter president of Tau Beta Pi
- Senator for UP's student government
- Member of the Honors Program
- Member of the University Singers and Jazz Combo1
Chamberlain's entrepreneurial journey began during his senior year at UP when he started working on technologies for older adults as part of his senior design project.1 This interest was sparked by observing one of his professors work on solutions for people with Parkinson's disease, as well as his personal experience with three of his grandparents using walkers.1
After graduating from UP, Chamberlain pursued graduate studies at MIT.1 He founded WalkWise with two fellow UP alumni, and the company received its first investment from the University's LaunchPad fund.1 WalkWise's primary product is a smart walker attachment that sends safety and health alerts to families and caregivers.12
Chamberlain's motivation for starting WalkWise stems from a personal desire to address his family's concern: how to keep his grandparents safe and healthy at home while providing them with independence.2 His company aims to revolutionize patient care by offering a remote monitoring solution that can be implemented quickly and efficiently.3
Recently, in July 2023, WalkWise successfully raised $1.2 million in funding to advance the commercialization of its remote monitoring solutions for older adults.4
