Peter Cao is a dedicated and passionate freshman at Cornell University, where he is pursuing a dual major in Computer Science and Applied/Engineering Physics. With a strong foundation in STEM fields such as physics, math, neuroscience, and computer science, Peter is committed to making education accessible for everyone. His academic journey and extracurricular involvement reflect his enthusiasm for research and mentorship, showcasing a budding expert in the realm of quantum computing and education technology.
Currently, Peter is making significant strides in the McMahon Lab at Cornell, focusing on non-classical computing, particularly in the areas of quantum, photonic, and neuromorphic computing. This cutting-edge research experience positions him as a promising contributor to the innovative landscape of computer science and technology. Peter also aims to enhance the educational experience at Cornell by becoming a teaching assistant (TA) for Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering courses, further solidifying his dedication to education and mentorship.
During his high school years, Peter's leadership skills were evident as he co-founded and served as the president of the CS club. His role as a peer educator allowed him to teach project-oriented Python and Java, inspiring his teammates to pursue excellence in their studies. Moreover, his position as a head teaching assistant and content creator at Fiveable demonstrated his commitment to bridging the educational gap. Fiveable aims to make high-quality education accessible to all students, and Peter played a vital role in delivering this mission through live streams and by creating educational content in subjects like calculus, computer science, and physics.
Peter's contributions have had a significant impact on the educational community, helping countless students achieve their academic goals. His involvement in various organizations, such as the New York Academy of Sciences and the International Youth Neuroscience Association, reflects his broad interests and desire to contribute positively to the scientific community.
