Patrick Wendell
Patrick Wendell, a former PhD student in Computer Science at UC Berkeley, co-founded Databricks, a company dedicated to helping organizations process large amounts of data and employ machine learning. While at Berkeley, he helped develop, as one of the founding committers, Apache Spark, a widely popular distributed computing system. Besides, he published various papers in the area of distributed systems, emphasizing resource management. In 2015, as Databricks VP of Engineering, he led the engineering team, which grew from 35 to 80 engineers, focusing on networking, machine learning, data visualization, and application engineering. Wendell's skill set, including product development, exploratory data analysis, machine learning, and data ingestion, has been the driving force behind Databricks' success, partnering with thousands of organizations.
