Patrick Cain

Patrick Cain brings his unique blend of materials science engineering, journalism, and design expertise to the table as the owner and principal of Patrick Cain Designs. With a focus on contemporary brutalist design, Patrick's clients range from hotels to private individuals around the world. Patrick's work has been featured in Dwell, Architectural Digest, Apartment Therapy, and is now available through West Elm. When he is not designing, Patrick is also an owner of an apartment building near USC and occasionally writes for national magazines.

Before developing his career in design, Patrick worked variously as a freelancer for publications such as Wired.com, Mental Floss, Oxygen, Women's Health, and others. He also worked as a reporter for Bloomberg BusinessWeek, ESPN The Magazine, Vegetarian Times, and Investor's Business Daily. Patrick even worked as a statehouse reporter for Akron Beacon Journal and as a data miner and general assistant for Kippinger Program for Public Affairs Journalism. At the beginning of his career, Patrick worked as a nuclear materials engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory and interned at Grade the News and Albany Times Union.

Patrick's diverse skills and experiences bring a unique perspective to his approach in design. His materials science engineering background alone provides insights into the behavior of materials and their potential use in design. Patrick's experience in journalism has sharpened his research and reporting skills, providing a solid base for understanding his clients' needs and creating designs that are functional, sustainable, and visually appealing.
