Osman Cevdet Akcay

Osman Cevdet Akçay is a prominent Turkish economist and academic who has had a distinguished career in both academia and the financial sector. Born in 1961 in Trabzon, Turkey, Akçay has made significant contributions to the field of economics and held several key positions throughout his career.12

Education and Academic Career

Akçay completed his undergraduate studies at Boğaziçi University, graduating from the Department of Economics in 1983. He then pursued his graduate education in the United States, earning both his M.Phil (1990) and Ph.D. (1992) in economics from The City University of New York, The Graduate School and University Center.1

His academic career began in 1985 as a doctoral assistant at The City University of New York. He later served as a senior lecturer at Hunter College and Baruch College from 1986 to 1990. Akçay's academic journey continued with positions at various institutions:

• Consultant at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Türkiye (July-October 2018)
• Consultant at Fiba Group, Holding and Bank (2018-2023)1

On July 28, 2023, Osman Cevdet Akçay was appointed as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, marking a significant milestone in his career.145
