Principal Engineer in EC2. Engineering leader in teams building ECS (Elastic Container Service, the AWS-native, managed container orchestration service), AWS Fargate (serverless containers), AWS AppRunner (fully managed containerized web application service), EKS (managed Kubernetes), container runtimes (Docker, containerd, integration with Firecracker microVMs), with a focus on cloud compute and networking.

As a technical leader I helped ship various products from initial idea stage all the way to general availability and beyond, including ECS Fargate (platform version 1.4), EKS Fargate (serverless Kubernetes), Fargate on Firecracker (serverless hardware-virtualized containers in microVMs), App Runner (serverless web apps), ECS containerd migration, ECS high-density awsvpc networking, IPv6 for containers, Fargate Hyperplane integration, ECS and EKS Windows node support, various open-sourced components such as CNI plugins for VPC networking, among other projects.

These services serve as foundational compute platforms on which both external customer applications, as well as many internal AWS services (including SageMaker, CloudShell, CodeCatalyst, Managed Grafana, etc.) are built.

Amazon Web Services

Principal Engineer in Software Defined Networking team in Microsoft Azure, Cloud and Enterprise Group.

Worked on Azure RNM (Regional Network Manager), Linux containers, Windows containers and container orchestration (Kubernetes, DC/OS, Docker Swarm, Service Fabric) on ACS (Azure Container Service) and AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service). Contributor to upstream CNI (ported to Windows), Docker libnetwork and ACS.

Shipped Azure VNet for Containers, connecting Linux and Windows containers directly to Azure VNET as first-class netizens, delivering unified SDN features for containers and VMs. Helped ship VNET IPv6 support and VNET service endpoints.

Senior member of Windows Core Networking development team in Datacenter Platform and Technologies, Operating Systems Group.

Shipped features in every release of Windows and Windows Server since 2004.

Windows TCP/IP networking stack IP layer component owner. Designed and developed the multi-tenant networking stack and multi-tenant cloud edge gateway platform, related kernel and user mode APIs, high-performance IP packet processing infrastructure, and the network compartment/namespace isolation infrastructure for Windows Containers (used by Docker and containerd). Also worked on Hyper-V network virtualization, TCP/IP WMI and PowerShell management layers, Hyper-V vSwitch WFP extensions, extension VM migration and power-efficient networking.

Senior Software Engineer

Remote Desktop Virtualization development team. Worked on various RDP features including RDP TCP and UDP+FEC network transports, RDP8 multi-monitor support, bitmap graphics screen scraping and encoding, frame spoiling, legacy client support, Direct3D GPU remoting and RDP user-mode architecture.

Windows Serviceability development team. Windows XP, Vista, Server 2013/2016 TCP/IP stack maintainer. Shipped various security patches and hotfixes via Windows Update and Windows Service Packs.

Designed and developed device drivers and embedded software for Nortel Networks TN-1SA series access and OPTera Metro 4000 series backbone WDM SONET/SDH optical multiplexers.

Developed features in SS7, metering and billing functions of DMS family of POTS/ISDN switches.

Software Development Engineer

Indie software developer. Developed and sold indie software for the Commodore Amiga platform as a teenager during the 90s. Shipped first commercially successful software at age 16 (an education package co-developed with a friend, sold 1200 copies) and another one at 17 (personal finance application, 500 copies).

Amiga demo scener. Coded graphics demos in Motorola 68000 and 68020 assembly on Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 platforms as a hobby, to learn computer programming and graphics.
