Since launching Alif ١ last week, I've been getting a ton of questions on what kinds of companies we're accepting.

My answer comes from asking some of the most successful VCs how they evaluate potential investments.

They all had one thing in common: they're focused on the founder, not the idea.

Very few startups resemble their original idea.

Slack was an online multiplayer game. Twitter started off as a podcast directory. YouTube was supposed to be a video-based dating site.

When I think back to founders I've seen go from 0 to 1 successfully, they all had most of the following qualities:

    • high conviction in the idea that they're working on • an opinionated perspective on the problem they're solving (usually from an experience they've lived in the past) • clear understanding of distribution/how to reach their first users • a history of obsession (ranked video game player, sneaker botting, started random businesses, grew a large audience, etc.) • the use of emerging tech as a moat • somewhat stubborn and able push through setbacks/rejections • the abillity to convince others of their vision

If this sounds like you, I'd love to have you be a part of Alif ١.
