As a one-year internal project, I led Reaktor's global Operating Model transformation, a strategic initiative that sought to identify and start building the capabilities needed for Reaktor to execute its growth strategy. This included mapping business processes, capabilities, and interdependencies in order to design a new business architecture and operating model. The challenging twist was the flat and fundamentally autonomous nature of the 700+ organisation.

AirFaas is a procurement software for manufacturing companies, helping them to buy better by having better tools for handling both day-to-day operations and strategic work. AirFaas makes procurement for industrial manufacturing companies digital and data-driven.

I worked in Reaktor’s Strategy & Business Design practice, combining business strategy, human-centered design, and lean methodologies into a creative yet critical approach to building better business.
 
My focus areas included:

* Building a data-driven culture of evidence-based decision-making throughout operations at all organizational levels

Combi Works is a contract manufacturing company covering infra products and manufacturing services. The Factory as a Service solution provides flexible and scalable manufacturing using AirFaas software to manage the entire supply chain completely digitally.

As a board member, I brought the perspectives of business strategy and lean methodologies in customer development and digital product development.

Sanoma Games is a leading developer and provider of game solutions in digital content, communication and advertising. Sanoma Games also runs Finland’s largest casual gaming services and fantasy sports games. The 15-person business unit covers all core functions of autonomous product and business development. Sanoma Games is a unit within Ilta-Sanomat, Finland’s leading tabloid and largest web property.

I led the team and had P&L responsibility for the business unit. I set and owned the desired business benefits and ensured everyone had what they needed to create solutions delivering them. While continuously optimizing the current business, I was driving lean business development especially in mobile. I established a data-driven culture of continuous improvement as well as leadership based on high autonomy, both driving motivation and outstanding financial results.

Throughout 2013, Olof was an active member of the Sanoma Digital Finland management team. His main contributions included quantitative reasoning for strategic decisions through modeling and reverse engineering markets, peers and competitors, and establishing data-driven performance optimization of key SDF services. Olof also managed the development of an expansion strategy in ecommerce.

In addition to supporting SDF business development, Olof was responsible for running the Games business unit and delivering on EBIT targets. Working tightly with the New Business Development team, he also managed staffing across the units yielding outstanding productivity and team motivation.

I was responsible for running the business unit and delivering on EBIT targets. I managed the transfer of the Gaming and Online unit (renamed Sanoma Games) from one SBU to another, rebuilding most of the business support processes and reorganizing for new synergies. I managed recruitments and restructured the unit to be leaner. Despite major organizational changes and challenging times, targets were met or exceeded and morale stayed high.

My key project was to plan and manage the transfer of all gaming services from the 30-server in-house setup to an external hosting provider. After evaluating alternatives, Amazon Web Services was chosen, implying building a new cloud infrastructure using emerging technology, but also transforming the existing applications to work in the radically new environment. Despite high uncertainty, the project was successfully completed within schedule and budget and yielded more stable services than before, and as modeled, at significantly lower OPEX than competing data center alternatives.

Gearshift Group was a boutique management consultancy in business strategy and M&A for technology-driven companies. I focused on digital business and worked with clients ranging from start-ups and SMEs seeking high growth and internationalization, to large organizations on technology-enabled innovation. Engagements required a deep understanding of both business and the underlying technology.
