Oliver Wise
Data for better public policy outcomes
Oliver Wise is currently serving as the Chief Data Officer at the U.S. Department of Commerce, a position he has held since March 2022. In this role, he is responsible for leading the department's data strategy, enhancing its capacity for evidence-based decision-making, and aligning data resources to better meet user needs. He also chairs the Commerce Data Governance Board, overseeing the department's data governance programs.1
Before his current role, Wise was the Director of Recovery Solutions at Tyler Technologies from April 2020 to February 2022. There, he led the development of solutions that provided economic insights to state and local economic development leaders.1 Prior to that, he served as the Director of Socrata Data Academy at Tyler Technologies, where he developed data analytics workshops and created strategic partnerships to enhance business development and client outcomes.1
Wise holds a degree from NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and is based in the Washington DC-Baltimore Area.1 His professional achievements have been recognized with several honors, including being named in the "Data Leaders 100" by CDO Magazine in December 2023 and receiving a "FedScoop 50 Federal Leadership Award" in November 2023.1
