Ola Bini

Ola Bini is a Swedish software developer and computer security expert known for his work in privacy, anonymity, security, and cryptography. He is the founder of the Digital Autonomy Center (Centro de Autonomía Digital) in Ecuador, where he focuses on these areas.4 Bini has a background in programming language design and implementation and has contributed to several open source projects.1

Bini gained significant attention due to a legal case in Ecuador. In 2019, he was arrested at Quito airport without being informed of the charges against him. He was later accused of unauthorized access to a computer system, but after a lengthy legal battle plagued by irregularities and delays, he was acquitted in January 2023 by an Ecuadorian court.23 Despite his acquittal, Bini continues to face legal challenges as prosecutors have sought to overturn the decision.3
