Nigel Drenthe
Cost Engineer at the European Space Agency
Nigel Drenthe is a Cost Engineer at the European Space Agency (ESA).1 He joined the Cost Engineering team at ESA in September 2019, describing it as "more than just a dream come true".2 Drenthe has a background in Aerospace Engineering and has conducted research into cost estimating and cost engineering of commercial smallsat launch vehicles in the 100-700 kg payload class.1
In 2018, Drenthe made history as the first-ever recipient of the Heinz Stoewer Space Award for his thesis work titled "SOLSTICE".56 His expertise extends beyond cost engineering, encompassing skills such as Python programming, investment banking, corporate finance, systems engineering, and financial analysis.7
Drenthe is actively involved in the space community, participating in events where he has shared experiences with astronauts and discussed challenges of international collaboration in space exploration.4 He also engages with academic conferences, recently promoting abstract submissions for the #SCEC2024 event.3
