Founder & Lead Developer at Ethereum Name Service
Nick Johnson is the Founder and Lead Developer of Ethereum Name Service (ENS).134 ENS is a decentralized platform that allows users to register and manage Web3 addresses, streamlining user experience for cryptocurrency transactions and facilitating the storage of avatars and profile information.13
Johnson's journey to founding ENS includes:
- Education He studied Computer Science at the University of Canterbury from 2001 to 2003.1
- Early career He worked as a software engineer at Niche Software Ltd, Atmosphere Design, Haydrian Corporation, and Telogis in New Zealand starting in 2021.1
- Google Prior to working on Ethereum, Johnson worked at Google as a Site Reliability Engineer and Developer Programs Engineer, where he was involved with Google App Engine.1
- Ethereum Foundation In 2016, he joined the Ethereum Foundation to work on Swarm, where he developed a naming service for decentralized content that evolved into ENS.1 Vitalik Buterin gave Johnson double the grant money he requested to build ENS.2
- ENS DAO In late 2021, Johnson established the ENS DAO, which achieved a market capitalization of $1 billion the day after its launch.1
Johnson also developed Thorin, a design system for ENS that uses React and Javascript.1 He and the ENS team collaborated with Chainlink to develop the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP).1
