Background and Education
Dr. Hertz is originally from Santa Monica, California. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 2006.4 He then pursued his Ph.D. in chemistry and chemical biology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), working with Drs. Kevan Shokat and Al Burlingame.4 After completing his Ph.D. in 2013, he conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University with Dr. Marc Tessier-Lavigne.42
