Nathan Sparks

Nathan Sparks is the Executive Director of One Okaloosa Economic Development Council (EDC), a position he has held since June 2013. He is based in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and has over 25 years of experience in the economic development sector, encompassing roles at local, regional, state, and corporate levels. Sparks is recognized for his leadership, strategic planning, and ability to build consensus within communities to foster economic growth.

Professional Background

Before joining One Okaloosa EDC, Sparks served as the Executive Director of the Golden Isles Development Authority from February 2005 to June 2013, where he focused on job retention and attracting quality employers. He also worked as the Manager of Economic Development for The St. Joe Company and as a Research Analyst for the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama.

Education and Certifications

Sparks holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, Economics, and Spanish from Oglethorpe University. He has furthered his education with a Certificate in Economic Development from the University of Oklahoma and a Leadership Certificate from Northwestern University. He is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), a designation awarded by the International Economic Development Council.

Contributions and Community Involvement

Under Sparks' leadership, One Okaloosa EDC has focused on enhancing the economic vitality of Okaloosa County through public-private partnerships. He has also been involved with the Florida Small Business Development Center’s Statewide Advisory Board and was honored with the Business Ambassador Award from Governor Rick Scott in 2016.
