Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala
Chairman at IFSO Position Statement Committee
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala is a well-known bariatric surgeon, laparoscopic surgeon, and gastro surgeon from Mumbai, India, with an extensive range of specialties, including GI surgery. He has dedicated his life to the battle against obesity and its related co-morbidities, such as diabetes, high blood pressure/heart disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, and respiratory issues. Besides actively operating at the biggest hospitals in Mumbai and other parts of India, Dr. Lakdawala also founded CODS India, a dedicated support center for those fighting obesity. His mission is to raise awareness surrounding surgical cures for obesity and to combat the chronic medical problem.
Dr. Lakdawala's educational background includes an MBBS from Grant Medical College, a master's in surgery (M.S.), gastro surgery from B.Y.L. Nair Hospital, and fellowships in bariatric surgery with Dr. Raul Rosenthal at Cleveland Clinic and at the department of gastro surgery, University of Ghent, Belgium. Prior to founding CODS India, Dr. Lakdawala served as the chief of the department of minimal access and bariatric surgery for Saifee Hospital and as a consultant at Lilavati Hospital & Research Center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lakdawala has been affiliated with various organizations, including the Obesity Surgery Society of India, where he served as vice president, the Asian Endo-surgery Task Force, where he was a board member, and the Asian Consensus Meeting on Metabolic Surgery (ACMOMS), where he was the founder president. Additionally, he previously chaired the IFSO Position Statement Committee, where he worked on creating a position statement on metabolic and bariatric surgery.
