Monique Jackson, also known as Mohlopheni Jackson Marakalala, is an Associate Professor at University College London (UCL) in the Division of Infection and Immunity. Her research primarily focuses on tuberculosis (TB) immunopathogenesis, aiming to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for the disease. The Marakalala lab, which she leads, investigates TB biomarkers and host-directed therapies by analyzing lung tissue and blood samples from TB patients. The lab also studies various cell death modalities in the mononuclear phagocyte system and how Mycobacterium tuberculosis evades the host immune response.134

In addition to her role at UCL, Dr. Jackson is a Wellcome Trust International Intermediate Fellow and a faculty member at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in South Africa. Her academic background includes significant experience as a principal investigator and group leader at the University of Cape Town before her current position at UCL.2
