Molly Shoichet

Molly Shoichet is a prominent scientist and the Scientific Director of PRiME (Next-Generation Precision Medicine) at the University of Toronto. She holds the title of University Professor, which is the highest academic rank at U of T, and is also the Michael E. Charles Professor of Chemical Engineering. Her research focuses on innovative drug delivery systems, tissue regeneration, and hydrogels, which have significant implications for drug discovery and treatment of diseases, including cancer.13
In her role at PRiME, Shoichet leads a multidisciplinary initiative aimed at advancing precision medicine by integrating various fields such as genomics, metabolomics, and artificial intelligence to develop tailored therapeutic solutions. PRiME has expanded significantly since its inception in 2019, now encompassing over 90 faculty members from 16 departments across U of T's campuses.1 Under her direction, PRiME seeks to enhance collaboration with partner hospitals and industry to translate research into practical applications that address unmet medical needs.12
Shoichet is recognized internationally for her contributions to science; she was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada and received the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering in 2020, which is Canada's highest award for science.1 Her leadership at PRiME is expected to foster new programs and collaborations that will further enhance the Toronto biotech ecosystem.12
