Mitch Silber

Mitch Silber is the Executive Director of the Community Security Initiative, a position he has held since February 2020.12 He is a professional global political risk and intelligence analyst with over 20 years of experience.1

Born on February 7, 1970, Mitchell Darrow Silber has an extensive background in counterterrorism and security.3 He previously served as the Director of Intelligence Analysis at the New York City Police Department (NYPD) from 2007 to 2012, where he supervised terrorism-related investigations and managed various analytical units.13

Silber's current role involves overseeing a $4 million plan to enhance security for Jewish institutions in the New York region.2 The Community Security Initiative is a partnership between UJA-Federation of New York and the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, funded by several foundations.3

In addition to his primary role, Silber is a lecturer at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, teaching a course on Modern Urban Terrorism.1 He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has authored books on terrorism, including "The Al Qaeda Factor: Plots Against the West".34
