Miltiadis Hatalis

Miltiadis (Miltos) Hatalis, a distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lehigh University, boasts a rich educational background. He obtained his B.S. degree in Physics from Aristotle University, Greece in 1982, followed by an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from SUNY Buffalo in 1984, and culminating in a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1987. Prof. Hatalis imparts his vast knowledge by teaching various courses including semiconductor devices, VLSI design, and photovoltaic energy systems.

As a dedicated researcher, Prof. Hatalis delves into electronic materials, devices, and circuits for flat panel displays, sensors, and integrated microsystems. His research spans across different substrates like silicon, glass, metal foils, plastic, and paper. Noteworthy achievements of his research group include pioneering work in low-temperature polysilicon and metal oxide thin film transistor (TFT) technologies, resulting in groundbreaking innovations like a flexible VGA AMOLED display, flexible integrated circuits on metal foils, and large-area sensor arrays for biometric and gas sensing applications.

Prof. Hatalis has been instrumental in securing over $13.5 million in research funding and has overseen more than 40 research programs as either Principal or Co-Principal Investigator. Furthermore, his impactful contributions to the academic community are evident through his extensive publication record, which includes over 175 technical publications and two book chapters. In addition to his academic endeavors, Prof. Hatalis has lent his expertise to various companies in the flat panel display and semiconductor industries as a consultant. He has also provided his insights as an expert witness in 13 patent litigation cases, even testifying in an ITC case.
