Mikel Reilingh, PhD
Dr. Mikel Reilingh, born in 1983, is a former top athlete in karate whose interest in the musculoskeletal system led him to pursue a career in medicine.
He commenced his medical studies at VU University in Amsterdam in 2002 and later undertook a PhD fellowship at the department of orthopaedic surgery at AMC under the guidance of professors van Dijk and Kerkhoffs.
In 2016, Dr. Reilingh successfully defended his thesis on different treatment options for cartilage defects in the ankle, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey.
His orthopaedic training primarily focused on sport-related injuries of the knee and ankle, culminating in a knee fellowship at St. Antonius hospital in 2018.
Dr. Reilingh has a diverse educational background, including high school studies at Caland Lyceum Amsterdam, an Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at Universiteit van Amsterdam, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
His professional experience spans across various prestigious organizations, such as Albert Schweitzer ziekenhuis, St. Antonius Ziekenhuis where he served as Founder of sportmedischnetwerk.nl, Chef de Clinique, and Knee Fellow, as well as AMC - Academisch Medisch Centrum where he held roles as Orthopaedic Surgery Resident and PhD Research Fellow specializing in Osteochondral Defects of the Ankle.
