Primoris Solutions Group (PSG) is a think tank designing innovative 21st Century approaches that address and efficiently solve 21st Century economic, social, and environmental problems.  PSG was founded in response to ongoing financial risk and other negative economic dimensions of the 2008 global crisis.  PSG works with international partners to test and deploy new financial structures and technologies to digest low- & non-performing loans and assets on balance sheets and turn them around over time.  PSG seeks to avoid more traditional reactionary planning, the "new normal"​ status quo approach, which has produced unprecedented unemployment, elevated sovereign debt yields, bank bailouts and/or newly tested bank bail-ins, higher bank fees, higher taxes, etc.  PSG engages with partners in a more proactive manner and explores the possibilities of charting a new course to facilitate a more rapid and sustainable recovery toward better triple bottom line returns and overall quality of life.

Fargreen is a new US-based social enterprise working to bring sustainable and profitable green solutions to rural farmers in Vietnam and around the world.  Going far by going green, the company is developing a new sustainable technique that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and helps local farmers to grow high quality branded mushrooms and sell through Fargreen to Northern Vietnamese restaurant and retail markets (see more at http://fargreenvn.wordpress.com/).  Currently, my role is to advise the CEO, COO, and executive team on market development, branding, customer acquisition, long term strategy, start-up financing resources, and other key efforts.

I am advising Nancy Tedeschi, the CEO of SnapItScrew LLC and related company EyeEgo on global market engagements, new market development, and global strategic alliances.  SnapItScrew (www.snapitscrew.com) is the innovative industrial and consumer fastener company that invented and owns the patented SnapIt screw system, which has become a big deal in the optical industry.  In the 2 years since the distributor OptiSource International introduced SnapIt, more than 5 million units have been sold. OptiSource International sells SnapIt's 26 hinge and eyewear designs and plans are in place for the line to grow to the approximately 35 screw sizes that will fit every type of frame. SnapItScrew has also expanded into global markets as well as other industrial fastener applications, based on several patents and patents pending in key markets around the world. 

Since its launch, SnapItScrew has won the top prize and the People's Choice Award at the National Invention Contest sponsored by the Inventor's Club of Kansas City, and received an Award of Excellence from the American Optical Laboratories Association,  SnapIt has also won an award from the Australian Optical Association, the 2012 Entrepreneurship award from the Greater Washington Technology Alliance Association and most recently took first prize in the Walmart Get On The Shelf contest.

As one of the first few evangelists, I currently serve the CEO & CTO as strategic advisor to CrowdHelps (www.crowdhelps.com).  CrowdHelps is an online community for women and girls offering crowdfunding, mentoring, organizational, marketing, encouragement and other help at the grassroots level.  We seek to support the needs, projects, and causes - -  entrepreneurial or not for profit - - that are being identified by women and girls in their various communities in North America and around the world.

Co-Founder and chief catalyst of an emerging international foundation designed to cultivate the rising generation of global technology entrepreneurs.  In cooperation with colleagues in the technology startup and investment communities of the US, China, India and other states, we established IFEST as a new non-profit organization aimed at supporting entrepreneurship.  Our programs build networks of cooperation between companies, venture investors, inventors, university researchers, government policymakers, and schools interested in promoting technology driven entrepreneurship for mutual benefit.  A particular focus of IFEST programs is on unleashing the talents of young technology entrepreneurs in the US and overseas, network building in support of international entrepreneurship, providing transnational entrepreneurial experiences, and improving government policies/practices that can help realize the creative economic potential of the next generation.

Responsible for creation, development, fundraising, and implementation of professional society programs to engage the major Asian economies and their growing chemical research communities in mutually beneficial cooperative activities.  These cooperative activities include programs of research collaboration, international educational exchange, policy analysis and dialogue among leaders in the U.S., China, Japan, South Korea, India, and other major nations in the Asia-Pacific region. Responsible for representation of the ACS and the U.S. chemically related research enterprise in chemical biology, nanotechnology, new materials, pharmaceuticals, green chemistry, chemical engineering and other fields to these countries and their public and private stakeholders.

Senior Manager for International Affairs

In support of Assistant Secretary Dr. Susan Sclafani, developed institutional plans for several international technology programs authorized by the Secretary of Education, including the U.S.-China E-Language Learning System, a new multi-million dollar online language learning project initiated by official agreement between the Department of Education and the Chinese Ministry of Education. Responsible for management and staffing of the Department’s national level Math & Science Initiative (MSI), aimed at improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for American K-12 students.  Led the team that organized and held the first ever Summit on Science in March, 2004 (See the Summit webcast at http://www.ed.gov/rschstat/research/progs/mathscience/index.html).  Responsible for planning and building the MSI network with key Federal interagency partners and co-funders, including NSF, NASA, NIH, DoD, and DoE.

Started a completely new program from scratch for AAAS focused on science and engineering cooperation with Asia.   Led U.S. participation in the APEC Youth Science Festivals since 1998, with grants from the National Science Foundation. Created new programs such as the International Science & Engineering Summer Camps for American and East Asian high school age young people (see the website: http://kusec.ksf.or.kr/).  Managed small staff of 3-4 persons, providing career guidance and mentoring.  Represented AAAS and its mission to the international science community, to U.S. and foreign governments, corporations, foundations, and non-governmental science organizations.  Established links to Federal science agencies, and members of Congress with an interest in science and technology in Asia. Established from scratch a suite of programs with external funding of over $1 million from private foundations, corporations, and Federal agencies.

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

Program Director

Management and coordination of all NIH programs and research activities involving Asia. Created and implemented a fellowship program for Japanese researchers already at NIH, and US researchers interested in biomedical research in Japan, raising over $1.5 million of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) funding.  Based on my negotiations with JSPS, this program is still offered annually. Convinced key Japanese government and private organizations to implement mutually beneficial research cooperation programs in the life sciences. Coordinated and spoke at the "Symposium on Future Perspectives for Japan-U.S. Cooperation and Exchange in Biomedical Sciences" in Tokyo in 1996, attended by Nobel laureates and other top life scientists and officials from both countries. Represented the U.S. position on the Life Science Liaison Group.  Represented the NIH position on emerging and re-emerging infectious disease research and training issues in Asia.

Authored reports on emerging issues relevant to federal science and technology policies, including the transfer of U.S. Government technologies to the private sector. Directed a study titled "Federal Technology Transfer and the Human Genome Project." Also co-authored the report "Environmental Technology: Analysis of Selected Federal R&D Programs."  Authored a survey of technology transfer units at 65 major U.S. research universities, and a survey of over 100 multinational advanced technology firms entering into cooperative research agreements (CRADAs) with U.S. federal laboratories.  Organized OTA workshops on the following: international research projects and technology transfer, environmental technology, international genomics research cooperation, and intellectual property rights in the biotechnology sector. Specialties include U.S. and foreign technology policies, venture capital, international trade, IPR, antitrust policy, biomedical research, and international competitiveness.
