Mike Edwards

Mike Edwards is the Director of Aviation at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR), a position he has held since November 2018. He was appointed by the Metro Council and previously served as the Interim Director of Aviation and Airport Operations Manager at BTR. With over 15 years of airport management experience, Edwards has also worked at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Education and Background

Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Studies and Aviation Management from the University of North Dakota, as well as a Master's degree in Homeland Security from Tulane University. He grew up in the New Orleans area and graduated from Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, Louisiana.

In 2022, he was recognized as one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Airport Business, highlighting his contributions to the aviation industry. Under his leadership, BTR is undergoing significant capital improvements, including a $100 million development plan aimed at enhancing air service and customer experience.

Edwards is also focused on workforce development within the aviation sector. He has partnered with Helix Aviation, a public-use charter school that provides an aviation-focused STEAM curriculum, aiming to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals.
