Mike Beaton

Mike Beaton was a First Officer at British Airways, recently involved in a significant controversy that led to his dismissal. He was reported to have engaged in drug use while on layover in Johannesburg, South Africa, before a scheduled flight back to London. Specifically, he was accused of snorting cocaine off a woman's chest during a night out, which he later described in explicit detail to a stewardess friend via text messages.123

Following the incident, which occurred on August 27, 2023, the flight he was meant to operate was canceled due to his unavailability after the flight attendant reported his behavior. Upon returning to London, Beaton tested positive for cocaine and was subsequently terminated from his position. British Airways emphasized that safety is their top priority and referred the matter to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which withdrew Beaton's medical certificate, effectively banning him from flying again unless he undergoes a comprehensive rehabilitation program.123

Beaton's actions have drawn significant media attention and have raised concerns about pilot conduct during layovers. He is described as married and a father, and he reportedly operated a hot tub retreat business with his wife in Devon.23
