Michael McShane joined the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in 2024 as the Communications Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center and the Offshore Wind Energy teams.12
Prior to joining NWF, McShane had a diverse background:
- He worked in the North Carolina State Senate
- He was involved in federal campaigns
- He spent 2.5 years in the U.S. House of Representatives
- His early career included 6 years as an outdoor educator in Maryland, where he taught children and adults about conservation, environmental protection, and climate change1
As an outdoor educator, McShane led groups in activities such as climbing, white water kayaking/rafting, mountain biking, and backpacking.1
McShane grew up in Washington, D.C. and currently resides in Vienna, VA. He holds a degree in Political Science with a minor in German from Guilford College in North Carolina.1
In his role at NWF, McShane is responsible for managing communications for both the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center and the Offshore Wind Energy teams. This position allows him to combine his experience in politics and environmental education to promote NWF's conservation efforts and renewable energy initiatives.12
