Dr. Michael Linke, a distinguished professional with a Ph.D. and CIP credentials, serves as the chair of the University of Cincinnati (UC) IRB and the StrokeNet Central IRB.
Having earned his doctorate in Pathology from the University of Cincinnati in 1993, Dr. Linke further enriched his expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation in Pulmonary Biology in 1995.
With a remarkable career spanning over 30 years, Dr. Linke retired as a Health Science Officer from the Cincinnati VA Medical Center (VAMC) in 2018, after conducting extensive research on Pneumocystis pneumonia.
Throughout his tenure at the VA, Dr. Linke delved into human subjects protections, leading to his significant roles on various committees, including the UC IRB, VA Research & Development committee, and Human Research Oversight Committee.
Dr. Linke has been an integral part of academia, currently holding the position of Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine at the UC College of Medicine and chairing the UC IRB since 2004.
Noteworthy among his achievements is the establishment of the StrokeNet Central IRB in 2014, a pivotal initiative by the NIH aimed at enhancing clinical trials and research on acute stroke treatment, prevention, and recovery.
Beyond his primary roles, Dr. Linke actively contributes to various committees and groups such as the SMART IRB Harmonization Steering Committee, the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI), and the Process for Changes in PI and non-PI Personnel SMART IRB Working Group, emphasizing his commitment to advancing research practices and participant protection.
His involvement in SMART IRB, a platform designed to streamline and harmonize the IRB review process for multisite studies, showcases his dedication to ensuring rigorous ethical standards while facilitating research collaboration.
A distinguished educational background includes a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology and Bacteriology from the University of Cincinnati, complemented by a BS in Biology from St. Joseph's College.
