Michael Lavelle

Michael Lavelle is a seasoned machine learning software engineer and architect with over two decades of experience in developing enterprise-level Java software for high-profile media, e-commerce, and financial organizations. His educational background includes a BA in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Analysis, Design, and Management of Information Systems from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

In his most recent role as a Senior Software Engineer at ENGINE - Transformation, Michael worked closely with a team of data scientists to transition machine learning prototypes into highly available, distributed algorithms that perform at scale. He has an exceptional interest in Deep Learning, which led him to enroll in several deeplearning.ai courses, build a Java ML toolkit, and use reinforcement learning to stabilize and fly quadcopters.

Throughout his impressive career, Michael has held several technical leadership positions, including Machine Learning Engineer at ml4j, Technical Lead, Developer, Software Development Lead at Transform, and Senior Java Software Engineer at Deluxe MediaRecall, BBC, and Open Source Agility. Additionally, Michael has served in programming roles at notable financial institutions such as Citibank, ABN AMRO, Standard Chartered Bank, Swiss Re, and IBM.
