Michael Hirshland
Venture capitalist with a prior background in law and public policy
Michael Hirshland is a prominent venture capitalist and the Co-Founder of Resolute Ventures, a venture capital firm that focuses on pre-seed and seed stage investments. He has over 18 years of experience in the early-stage investment ecosystem. Before founding Resolute Ventures in 2011, Hirshland was a partner at Polaris Venture Partners from 1999 to 2011, where he was instrumental in backing notable companies such as Automattic, Q1 Labs, and Quantcast.124
In addition to his investment career, Hirshland is recognized for creating Dogpatch Labs, a startup community that has helped launch over 350 companies, including Instagram. He also established the Digital Media Summit, a significant gathering for leading founders from 2005 to 2011.12
Hirshland has a background in law and public policy, having served as Judiciary Committee Counsel for the U.S. Senate and as a law clerk to Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy at the Supreme Court.23 He holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of Virginia School of Law.3
Outside of his professional life, Hirshland is a family man with four children and enjoys skiing and tennis.12
