Meredith D. Clark
American journalist and scholar
Meredith D. Clark is an Associate Professor of Race and Political Communication at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a strong background in journalism and academia, with her research focusing on the intersections of race, media, and power, particularly through the lens of Black Twitter and systemic racism in U.S. news media.
Education and Early Career
Clark earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 2002 and a Master's degree in Journalism in 2006 from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. She completed her Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014, where her dissertation titled To Tweet Our Own Cause: A Mixed-Methods Study of the Online Phenomenon "Black Twitter" received a Top Dissertation Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.23
Before her current role, Clark served as an assistant professor at the University of Virginia and the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. She has also worked as a journalist for several notable publications, including The Tallahassee Democrat and The Austin American-Statesman.12
