Melissa Chiu is a highly educated professional with a strong background in Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, and Data Governance. She holds an MA and C. Phil (ABD) in Sociology with a focus on Social Stratification, Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration from the University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, she studied MS in Statistics at the University of Washington and completed a BS in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Michigan.
Throughout her career, Melissa has held various significant roles in prominent organizations. She is currently serving as the Deputy Director at the Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) within the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Previously, she has worked as the Acting Executive Director, Director of Analytics, and Director of Data Governance at the Department of Veterans Affairs, specializing in Data Governance and Analytics.
Melissa Chiu has also accumulated extensive experience at the U.S. Census Bureau, where she held multiple positions including Data and Evaluation Outreach Manager, Chief of the Administrative Records Research Branch, and CTPP Program Manager. She has showcased her expertise in sociological research and survey statistics as a Sociologist and Survey Statistician focusing on CPS Migration Supplement and Estimates of Unauthorized Migration.
Furthermore, Melissa has contributed her skills and knowledge as a Research Assistant at the RAND Corporation and as an Associate Research Consultant at Chinese for Affirmative Action. Her diverse professional background demonstrates her proficiency in statistical analysis, research, data governance, and sociology.
