May Mei

May Mei is an accomplished Executive Director at China International Capital Corporation (CICC), based in Beijing. She has a diverse background that encompasses international non-profit management, media production, and environmental advocacy, with over a decade of experience in these fields.

Education and Early Career

May Mei holds several degrees, including a Master’s in Executive MBA from Chang Kang Graduate School of Business, a Certificate in Production for Film and Television from UCLA Extension, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Hunan Normal University. Her career began in the Chinese media sector, where she directed and produced more than 500 episodes for major television networks like CCTV and Hunan Satellite TV. This foundation in media has been instrumental in her subsequent work in environmental advocacy.14

Environmental Advocacy

Her pivotal moment came when she moved back to Beijing with her son and was confronted by severe pollution. This experience motivated her to shift her focus towards environmental issues. May became the chief representative of WildAid China, where she led significant campaigns against shark fin soup consumption, which notably influenced dietary habits across China.12

In 2016, she founded GoalBlue, an NGO aimed at promoting low-carbon dietary and lifestyle choices among urban and millennial populations in China. Through this organization, she has spearheaded numerous campaigns that have reached over 1.2 billion people, utilizing social media to engage younger audiences effectively.13

Current Role at CICC

At CICC, May Mei continues to leverage her extensive experience in both media and environmental advocacy to influence sustainable practices within the financial sector. Her work reflects a commitment to fostering a healthier environment while promoting responsible consumer behavior among younger generations.24
