Matthias Winkenbach

Matthias Winkenbach is the Director of the MIT Megacity Logistics Lab, a distinguished research group focusing on applied operations research in the field of last-mile distribution, particularly in large urban areas.
His expertise lies in urban distribution network design, planning, operation, and simulation, urban logistics policies and regulations, operational best practices, as well as urban logistics big data analytics and technology applications.
Matthias holds a Ph.D. in Logistics/Supply Chain Management and an M.Sc. in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and Economics.
His academic journey spans across countries including Germany (WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management), the United States (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business), and Canada (HEC Montréal).
With an international work background in both industry (Volkswagen of South Africa, Deutsche Telekom, among others) and consulting (McKinsey), Matthias brings a wealth of experience to his research and projects.
He has been involved in founding and directing the MIT CAVE Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has previously served as the Director of the renowned MIT Megacity Logistics Lab.
