Matthew Whitney

Matthew Whitney is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and pedestrian based in Seattle, Washington.

His artistic focus involves personal cartographies through drawings that explore urban maps and shared city spaces.

He is passionate about mapping the nuanced layers of geographical, collective, and personal elements within our environments.

Matthew is intrigued by the concept of movement and the poetics of creating lines while navigating through physical and metaphorical spaces.

His artistic repertoire includes drawing, painting, photography, collages, and video interventions.

He is currently the Visual Media and Technology Coordinator at Spiritual Directors International, contributing through photography, video, design, and illustration.

Matthew Whitney holds a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Art from Whitworth University.

He has been involved in various educational institutions such as Seattle Central College, Seattle Pacific University, and South Seattle Community College.

Additionally, he has held roles at Seattle Vocational Institute, Northwest University, Trinity Lutheran College, and Applied Technology Consulting among others.

His professional journey also includes IT support at Seattle Art Museum.
