Matthew Van Eman is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in patent law, specializing in patent prosecution, strategic advisory work, and due diligence assessments, particularly within the medical devices and biomedical engineering sectors.

Dr. Van Eman excels in managing large patent portfolios, providing assistance to clients in enhancing their IP positions across existing and future product lines, and amplifying the overall value of their patent estates.

He brings expertise in handling patent clearance and due diligence matters for product launches and major acquisitions, along with in-depth knowledge of complex prosecution issues like inter partes reexaminations, inter partes review, and appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

His experience extends to district court litigation, where he engages in early case assessment, defense strategy evaluation, claim construction analysis, fact discovery, and expert witness preparation, thereby offering a comprehensive perspective that enriches his patent prosecution, opinion, and due diligence advisory services.

Matthew Van Eman's academic journey includes a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School, a Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Moreover, he has also completed the Senior Executive Program in Venture Capital and Private Equity at Columbia Business School.

Currently serving as a Partner at McCarter & English, LLP, Matthew Van Eman has previously worked as an Associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, and served as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholar at the National Institutes of Health.
