Matthew Stephenson

Matthew Stephenson is a highly accomplished information governance and risk management professional with a wealth of senior-level experience in Higher Education.

With a strong track record in compliance with Data Protection legislation including GDPR and DPA 2018, Matthew has expertise in the Freedom of Information Act 2000, risk management programs, and establishing effective internal audit delivery.

He has extensive experience in implementing information and records management projects and other governance-related initiatives, recently overseeing successful projects such as compliance with GDPR, the Prevent Duty under the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015, due diligence frameworks, and policy management processes.

Matthew is a skilled trainer and mentor known for his thought leadership and exceptional professional reputation, often sought after as a conference speaker.

His educational background includes an MA in Archives and Records Management from UCL and a BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of York.

Throughout his career, Matthew held various key positions in reputable organizations including Assistant Head (Risk and Information Governance) and Legal and Governance and Data Protection Officer at the University of Bradford, as well as roles at the University of Salford, London School of Economics, The National Gallery, Imperial College, and The Science Museum.
