Dr. Matthew Hale is an Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity at University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) in the School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, College of Information Science and Technology. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science at the University of Tulsa with a focus on formal certification tools for cloud-based information systems. Dr. Hale's expertise lies at the intersection of security and software engineering, particularly in secure web services, mobile applications, and wearables. His research also delves into cybersecurity STEM outreach, hybrid mobile application attack vectors, and consumer wearable security in the Internet of Things.
During his academic journey, Dr. Hale not only earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science but also pursued a Master's degree at the University of Tulsa. His notable work includes the creation of the formal verification language Cloud X-UNITY and the SecAgreement XML Schema for Security SLA specification.
Passionate about advancing cybersecurity knowledge, Dr. Hale is engaged in a research project named CyberTrust, focusing on understanding the psychology of phishing, trust antecedents, and personalized training to mitigate future victimization. Apart from his academic pursuits, Dr. Hale enjoys cooking, drawing parallels between the culinary arts and software engineering, as well as spending time disc golfing and playing tabletop games.
