Matthew Growdon

Matthew Growdon, MD, MPH is a geriatrician and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).12 He completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, graduating in 2007 with a concentration in History and Literature.1 His academic journey led him to pursue a career in medicine, where he combines his interests in humanities and healthcare.
Dr. Growdon's research focuses on improving the quality and safety of prescribing for older adults with cognitive impairment and social vulnerability.1 He has published several papers on topics related to geriatric care, including minimizing sleep disruption for hospitalized patients, improving care for ground-level falls in assisted living, and the challenges of promoting mobility while preventing falls in hospitals.1
Prior to his current position, Dr. Growdon was a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow in Aging Research at UCSF.34 His work has contributed to understanding polypharmacy among older adults with dementia and potential Medicare savings through generic substitution of certain medications.15
