MP for Boston and Skegness
Matthew Robert Warman is a British Conservative Party politician and former journalist who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Boston and Skegness from 2015 until 2024. Born on September 1, 1981, in Enfield, London, Warman was educated at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School and later studied English at Durham University. During his time at university, he was involved in student theatre as Treasurer of the Durham Student Theatre.21
Political Career
Warman was first elected as MP for Boston and Skegness in the May 2015 general election, securing 43.8% of the vote with a majority of 4,336. He was re-elected in both the 2017 and 2019 elections with significantly increased majorities: 16,572 in 2017 and 25,621 in 2019.12 Throughout his parliamentary career, he focused on issues related to digital communications and technology. He served on the Science and Technology Select Committee and co-chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Broadband and Digital Communication.23
In July 2019, he became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Digital Infrastructure at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, where he addressed digital policy and online security issues. He briefly held the position of Minister of State at the same department from July to September 2022.25 Despite his initial opposition to Brexit, Warman later aligned himself with pro-Brexit groups after his constituency voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU.2
Warman lost his seat in the May 2024 general election to Richard Tice of Reform UK, marking an end to his parliamentary tenure.64
Professional Background
Before entering politics, Warman worked as a journalist for The Daily Telegraph from 1999 to 2015. His reporting primarily focused on technology topics, including major companies like Facebook, Google, and Apple. He covered significant product launches such as the iPhone and BBC iPlayer and conducted interviews with influential figures like Jeff Bezos and Sir Tim Berners-Lee.12
Personal Life
Matt Warman resides between Boston and Skegness with his wife Rachel and their daughter. His family has strong local ties; his mother-in-law worked for the RSPB at Freiston Shore, while his father-in-law was a long-serving science teacher at Boston Grammar School.1
As of now, Warman is campaigning to be the Conservative candidate for the newly created position of Mayor for Greater Lincolnshire.5
