Matt Slater

Matt Slater is the Founder and Managing Partner of Stateless Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in investments across AI, crypto, and Web3. He leads the investment team and chairs the investment committee at Stateless Ventures, which he founded in 2017. The firm has made over 100 investments globally, focusing on startups with high asymmetric risk-reward potential.14

Before Stateless Ventures, Slater co-founded Hedgy, a blockchain derivatives startup that was one of the first to develop decentralized exchanges for crypto derivatives. Hedgy raised $1.2 million in seed funding from investors like Tim Draper and Marc Benioff and was acquired by Wyre in 2018. He remains an advisor to Wyre.126

Slater's career began with early investments in Bitcoin (2013) and Ethereum (2014), along with other successful crypto protocols such as MakerDAO, Aave, and Synthetix. His expertise spans venture capital, blockchain technology, smart contracts, and cryptoeconomics.35

Educationally, Slater holds a BSc in Business from USC, a Master’s in Finance from Hult International Business School, and a JD in Securities and Tax Law from Loyola Law School.15
