Matt Schwartz is the US Finance Practice Group Leader at DLA Piper, a global law firm. He has been with DLA Piper for over 22 years, starting as an Associate in 2000 and progressing to his current leadership role in July 2022.1
Schwartz specializes in finance transactions, particularly in areas such as leveraged/capital markets, structured finance, venture & growth, sports, media and entertainment, projects and energy, investment funds, and restructuring.1 He has extensive experience representing leading banks and private credit funds in structuring and negotiating various debt, equity, and hybrid investments, with a focus on PE and VC backed technology, fintech, life sciences, and healthcare companies.1
In addition to his professional work, Schwartz is actively involved in several philanthropic and mentorship initiatives:
- He serves as a Board Advisor and Pro Bono Counsel for HeadCount Org, an organization dedicated to voter registration.1
- He is a co-founder, board advisor, and mentor for The Legal Mentor Network, which focuses on mentoring young lawyers and law students, particularly those from underrepresented communities.1
- Schwartz is also a board advisor and pro bono counsel for the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library.1
Outside of his legal and philanthropic work, Schwartz is involved in sports, music, and entrepreneurship. He coaches baseball, invests in seed/early stage companies, and describes himself as a "#lawdad" with interests in various sports and music.1
