Matt Mitchell is a renowned hacker, security researcher, operational security trainer, and data journalist who has made a name for himself by advocating for internet safety and privacy. He is the founder and leader of CryptoHarlem, a community-based project that teaches fundamental cryptography tools to African American residents of upper Manhattan. Apart from this, he is the Director of Digital Safety & Privacy at Tactical Technology, where he spearheads security training, curricula development, and organizational security.
Matt is a competent trainer who also trains people for Global Journalist Security in digital safety and security. He is passionate about training activists in operational and information security and his work focuses on marginalized and over-policed populations in the United States. In 2016, he was awarded the Mozilla / Ford Foundation Open Web Fellowship and was embedded at Color of Change, a civil rights/social justice organization. Matt is also a tech advisor to the Human Rights Foundation and the Internet Freedom Festival and serves as a member of the advisory board for the Open Technology Fund.
