Owner/Designer MARY WEATHER
Mary Weather is a self-taught visual artist, born and raised in New York's East Village in the 1970s and 80s. Her esoteric aesthetic was ignited by the artists, art, and advertising she was exposed to growing up in Manhattan. She is the owner and designer of Mary Weather, which began in 2007 with a series of musical graphics sold exclusively in Los Angeles, including boom boxes, sheet music, and headphones. Over time, her company has captured the zeitgeist, set trends and produces a sophisticated, high-quality, handmade, 100% American product.
In 2009, Mary Weather launched its anchor Logo, and in 2010, the first of a series of "animal person" collages/graphics came out. Since then, these designs have gained momentum in the mass market, and Mary Weather is now a maverick brand with a mission to continue setting trends and supplying customers with amazing graphics well ahead of the industry. In 2014, Mary Weather opened a flagship store in Downtown Oakland at 333 15th Street, where they've committed to building community and sharing their space with young local emerging visual, music, and fashion artists.
Mary Weather studied at LaGuardia High School for the Arts and continued her education at Boston University. She isn't formally trained in fashion or graphic design, though her longevity and continued success in the fashion industry reflect otherwise. She believes that her strength as a designer and trend forecaster comes from the rich art/street culture of the 'Downtown Scene' she was immersed in and at the same time, outside of.
