Martha Mooke is an acclaimed electric violist and composer known for her innovative performances, compositions, and educational programs.
She combines classical training with extended techniques, technology, and improvisation, pushing musical boundaries.
As a Yamaha Artist and Eventide's first Artist in Residence, she is a leading figure in electric and multi-style string playing, having collaborated with notable artists like David Bowie, Barbra Streisand, and Philip Glass.
Martha Mooke is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Scorchio Quartet, featured on David Bowie's Heathen CD, and is actively involved in various music advocacy organizations such as ASCAP and the Recording Academy.
Her diverse catalog of works spans solo, chamber, orchestra, film, and theater music, with acclaimed recordings like Enharmonic Vision, Bowing's Cafe Mars, and No Ordinary Window.
She holds a Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from the University at Albany, SUNY.
Currently, Martha Mooke serves as the Founding Director of the Multi-Style Strings program at New Jersey City University, showcasing her passion for innovative music education.
