As a Development Director at KIXEYE, I am charged with ushering several teams into a new and growing company as we scaled out to just under 500 people. Being the leader of various teams, I was in and outside of my comfort zone. Listening to the individuals that made up the team was crucial. Understanding where they were and what was blocking them from realizing their true potential was the best way to overcome my own technical limitations. I feel confident that I was successful in helping people succeed and eventually report to more specialized managers. I have been responsible for Battle Pirates, Backyard Monsters, UI, UX, Tech Art, and the Shared Client Components Teams.
As KIXEYE grows and Technical Directors are hired, I am able to focus on my true passion, shared technology. I believe that the individual game teams should be empowered to focus on IP! My goal is to remove repeatable and common components from the many tasks faced by individual game teams without forcing a "game engine" on teams. As the Lead of the Battle Pirates Team I had several responsibilities: working with the Product team to negotiate the best solution given the technical and time constraints, working with the engineers to deliver a quality release within agressive timelines, working with external teams to communicate future needs, possible problems and current blocking issues, keeping the Team motivated during crunch time, negotiating time to increase quality and pay back "tech debt". In a weekly release schedule, everything is compressed, which creates a stressful environment; strong leadership, ability to listen to those in and outside of your team and calm under fire are a must. When things go wrong, you have to calmly consider the facts and create a plan to resolve the issues. I felt at ease in and enjoyed the responsibilities associated with this role.

Responsible for creating an interactive game platform that displays points, progress and e-learning games. Using ActionScript 3.0, I created rich-client that displayed data served from the back-end system that enabled kids to play educational games for points that could be redeemed for rewards.
My responsibilities included architecting and implementing our Flash applications as well as updates and maintenance. I designed a flexible system into which 3rd party games could be plugged and played. I also implemented and maintained games that were designed in-house.
SmartyCard's unique product has been well received by children all over the country who enjoy the education games and the ability to learn and earn prizes!

I managed the Integration team for FreeWheel. As we win clients, it was my responsibility, and that of my team to work out the integration of our two desperate products quickly and accurately. As FreeWheel is relatively new, our list of challenges is long and growing by the day! It is, therefore, up to us to stay agile and handle each *problem* as an opportunity to rapidly create solutions that work; whatever the technology.
We are employing ActionScript 2.0 and ActionScript 3.0, JavaScript, video encoding and other technologies to deliver ads that respect the content creator's, producer's and the whole chain of talented people's roles and rights! It's time to deliver content to the viewers! The days of luring eyes to specific sites are over. FreeWheel is here to deliver content when you want it, where you want it!

As an on-line media company, our primary role is to deliver the highest quality video available, and viewable in Flash; my role as a Web Programmer is to develop and maintain the Flash video player, adding features and integrating ad networks. Working almost exclusively in ActionScript 2.0, I've created a flexible player that not only delivers high-quality FLV movies, but also organizes multiple videos as a play list, integrates several ad providers, with the ability to try several networks, assuring that an ad is played. My latest development efforts have been to upgrade the player to ActionScript 3.0. I am also responsible for development and support of JavaScript, including several AJAX widgets, some light graphical work, PERL, MOD PERL, Catalyst, XML, RSS Feeds, HTML, and CSS.

Element K is an on-line learning site which uses co-brands to integrate with partners seamlessly in order to unify the user experience. My role as a Software Engineer was to bring the back-end business logic and the graphical mock-ups together using a wide assortment of technologies including: Java, JSP, Java Custom Tags, Visual Basic .NET, XSL, Xpath, XML, HTML, CSS, DHTML, JavaScript, Flash and ActionScript 1.0. Over the course of my four years with Element K, I worked with a multitude of companies in order to integrate our learning site into their corporate Internet and intranet experience, gaining valuable skills a fast-paced environment that required rapid response and creative solutions.

To be honest, I was the only engineer at Wards. Working with some of the nicest people I've ever worked with, I was charged with ensuring 24x7 mail and web up-time, maintaining and upgrading the corporate web experience, development and maintaining in-house software packages and upgrading their Token Ring network to Ethernet. I also had to run out to the warehouse occasionally and kick some printers, as they were running Twinax! Great job with great people, and I only left to increase my peer exposure, which payed dividends!

H.L. Yoh was my first break, offered to me as a student, I was quickly offered more and more responsibility. I was the company's Web Master and sole developer, I worked with the Systems Engineer rebuilding and maintaining hardware, I handled tech support calls, was their resident Lotus Notes guru (I am loathe to use the term expert), I traveled to remote offices to train recruiters, sales executives and manager on the contact management software, and generally made myself available for anything I could help on or learn from! Excellent experience from a great group of people who consistently offered me work and help to succeed.
