Mark Hanson

Mark Hanson is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Heartbeat Health, Inc., a health technology startup focused on enhancing heart care delivery. He has a background as an engineer, scientist, and product architect, and is based in the Washington DC-Baltimore area.

Education and Career

Hanson completed his PhD in electrical engineering at the University of Virginia, where he specialized in wearable sensors for diagnosing movement disorders. He has authored 19 peer-reviewed publications and holds six US patents, accumulating over 2,000 citations in his field.

Before co-founding Heartbeat Health, he was involved in several significant ventures:

• BeClose: He co-founded and served as Head of Technology and Product at this health tech company, which focused on IoT solutions for independent living. BeClose was recognized for its effectiveness in promoting health and received full reimbursement from public payors across North America.

• Alarm.com: As the Director of Product Management for Platforms and Health Innovations, he played a key role in integrating BeClose into Alarm.com and contributed to the company's IPO process.

Hanson is also an Adjunct Associate Professor and Co-Director of HealthXDS at George Washington University and serves as a Venture Partner at NextGen Venture Partners, alongside advisory roles at Enabled Intelligence and the Halcyon Incubator.1
