Mark Hammond

Mark Hammond is the Vice President and General Manager of Autonomous Systems at Microsoft, a position he has held since September 2021. He is responsible for overseeing the Autonomous Systems program, which focuses on providing core platform capabilities in areas such as Machine Teaching, Reinforcement Learning, and Simulation. His work includes managing significant projects like Project Bonsai and AirSim, which aim to enhance the development and deployment of autonomous technologies.12

Before his current role, Hammond served as the General Manager of Autonomous Systems from August 2018 to August 2021. He has a notable background in the technology sector, having founded Bonsai, a company dedicated to making AI accessible to developers, which he led from February 2014 until its acquisition in July 2018. Additionally, he has held various roles at Microsoft since the mid-1990s, contributing to projects involving Windows and Internet Explorer.13

Hammond holds a degree in Engineering and Applied Science, focusing on Computation and Neural Systems, from Caltech.2 His career reflects a strong commitment to advancing AI and autonomous systems, leveraging his extensive experience in both leadership and technical roles.
