Mark Cohen
Justin Potter Professor of American Competitive Analysis & Professor of Law at Vanderbilt University
Mark A. Cohen is the Justin Potter Professor of American Competitive Enterprise at Vanderbilt University, with additional positions as Professor of Law at Vanderbilt's Law School and University Fellow at Resources for the Future.
With a background in economics, Mark has served in various government roles such as VP for Research at RFF and economist at the Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Trade Commission, and U.S. Sentencing Commission.
An expert in government policy, Professor Cohen has authored over 100 articles focusing on environmental regulation, corporate crime, and the costs of crime. He has contributed to governmental advisory panels and the Stakeholder Council of the Global Reporting Initiative.
At Vanderbilt, he teaches courses on Corporate Strategies for ESG Issues, Energy Markets in a Low Carbon Economy, Financial Analysis of ESG Data, and the Law and Business of Climate Change. He also leads an annual MBA project course to Israel, guiding students in consulting projects for start-up companies.
Mark Cohen's expertise spans environmental economics, corporate sustainability, CSR, entrepreneurship, economic analysis, and testimony in complex class action litigation. He has consulted for both plaintiffs and defense in litigation matters involving economic issues, discrimination, environmental compliance, and penalties.
Educationally, Mark pursued a PhD in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University and a BSFS in International Economics from Georgetown University.
He has held key roles in various organizations including serving on the External Sustainability Advisory Panel for ExxonMobil and the Board of Directors at GRI US Focal Point of the Global Reporting Initiative.
