Marita Cowie AM is a highly accomplished individual with a diverse educational background and extensive experience in various leadership roles.
Her educational journey includes completing the Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors, holding a Bachelor of Business from Queensland University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Queensland.
Marita has held prominent positions in several organizations, including serving as the Chief Executive Officer at the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). She has also been an Executive Committee Member of the Rural Working Group at WONCA, the World Organization of Family Doctors.
Prior to her role at ACRRM, Marita Cowie was an Associate Professor at James Cook University. She has also been actively involved with various institutions such as the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Deakin University, and Asthma Australia in different capacities including as a Director, Deputy Chair, and Advisory Board Member.
Moreover, she has a wealth of experience in governance and professional development, having served as Chair of the Asthma Foundation of Queensland, Deputy Chair of Asthma Foundation Queensland and New South Wales, and as a Member of The Executive Connection (TEC). Marita's contributions also extend to academia, where she held the position of Program Head for Overseas Trained Doctors Bridging Courses at the University of Queensland.
