Complexity Institute is a not-for-profit, education and research organization in complex systems, founded in 2010 in Italy. The Complexity Institute is one of the sponsoring organizations of the "FRANCISCO VARELA PROJECT": an education project that it has been carrying out at Villa Agellis, Spoleto, Italy, working with people and associations operating in the various and interconnected fields of research which Varela has devoted himself throughout his life: the importance of the first-person approach to the lived experience, the embodied cognition, the learning circle, the nature of living organizations, and - last but not least - the ethical know-how based on awareness and action, with the aim of creating connections between science and spirituality, that Varela called "gentle bridges". Since 2013 it organizes a 10-days COMPLEXITY MANAGEMENT SUMMER SCHOOL, and a 7-days COMPLEXITY MANAGEMENT WINTER LAB for managers and scholars, with University teachers and experts working together with attendees on complex systems issues. From 2014 the Complexity Institute organizes a COMPLEXITY & MINDFULNESS COACHING SCHOOL and a 3-years SCHOOL IN SYSTEMIC NATUROPATHY AND COMPLEXITY IN MEDICINE, "EMBODIMIND"

CMWL – COMPLEXITY MANAGEMENT WINTER LABMethods & ToolsITALY– COMPLEXITY THEORY AND MANAGEMENT APPLICATIONSThe CMWL takes place every year focused on a specific instrument of oversight of complex contexts. The purpose is to create in the Lab a set of complexity management tools of considerable interest for the best management practices. Each tool and technique are presented from a methodological point of view (why choose it and how it fits in the frame of complex organizations) and in terms of techniques for its use (software, case studies, exercises). The teachers are scholars and experts who are using these tools and are able to expose the secrets of the techniques to the group, outlining the benefits and results that it can get.The aim is to co-create with the participants a system of 'best practices' to support the management in a process of transformation and adaptation of patterns of action and decision-making that shift the focus from the adoption of deterministic methods to the application of methods and tools for relational emergence generating new personal skills.

Since 2013, the Complexity Institute organizes a COMPLEXITY MANAGEMENT SUMMER SCHOOL (CMSS).Each year, the attention is focused on an aspect of complexity management through teachings,case studies with experts,generative dialogues with teachers that are present in a stable manner. FACULTY TEAM APPROACHThe team of teachers and experts working in the 2nd Complexity Management Summer School adopts a teaching approach based on the process of learning generated by the proximity and the circularity of the relationships among all participants. The method of generative dialogues with the participants and the co-teaching of the team facilitate the emergence of new ideas and new behavior related to the study of complexity theory, its practices and its recurrent cases. To encourage the development of this generative processes, teachers and experts will be involved in various activities inside and outside the classroom, in order to facilitate the integration of different working approaches and the consolidation of new points of view on the topics covered.
