Maria Sonevytsky is an accomplished Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Berkeley, with a rich background in music education, research, and storytelling. She holds a diverse educational portfolio, including a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Columbia University, where she also completed her M.Phil and M.A., specializing in Musicology and Ethnomusicology with distinction. Maria further pursued her academic journey with a Ph.D. in Music (Anthropology of Music) at Columbia University and obtained a B.A. in Music and Slavic Regional Studies from Barnard College, as well as a B.A. in Music Education and Performance from George Mason University.
