Maria Saporta is a seasoned journalist with over four decades of experience in the industry. Beginning her career in 1980 at the Macon Telegraph as a general assignment reporter, she later moved to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1981, where she dedicated 27 years to journalism. At the AJC, Maria specialized in business news, transitioning from a reporter to a columnist. Her business column began in 1991, and she added an urban growth and development column in 1997, showcasing her expertise in these areas. In 2008, Maria left the AJC and embarked on new journalism ventures, including becoming a regular contributing writer for the Atlanta Business Chronicle and launching SaportaReport, an esteemed online news outlet focused on regional news with a team of seasoned reporters and contributors.
Aside from her journalistic endeavors, Maria Saporta has been deeply involved in the Atlanta community through her work on various projects. She is the founder and ex-officio board member of the Atlanta Civic Circle, a journalism nonprofit aimed at highlighting community leaders and issues in Atlanta. SaportaReport and the Atlanta Civic Circle work in conjunction as sister organizations, emphasizing Maria's commitment to quality journalism and community engagement. A proud alumna of Georgia State University, Maria pursued a Master's in Urban Studies, enhancing her understanding of urban affairs and development, which are key focuses of her journalistic career.
